Over the next quarter, as part of our commitment to being a socially responsible organisation in the mining industry, Stratum International is sponsoring a team of mining experts who are raising money for children in Africa by tackling the toughest endurance event in the word.

Stratum International has supported charities that improve the lives of people living in areas where mining firms are active since the beginning. We give a proportion of every fee we earn to good causes as a way of sharing our good fortune and saying thank you to our clients.

Over the next quarter of 2016 we will be sponsoring a team of endurance cyclists as they pedal across the USA raising money for charity.

The Race Across America (RAAM) is a 3,000 mile non-stop endurance race in which solo riders and teams ride non-stop from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean, covering 12 states and encountering deserts, three major mountain ranges and America’s Great Plains along the way.

Stratum International is sponsoring Team Abana, a group of four consulting and finance professionals with links to the mining industry. Lee Downham, Graeme Dacomb, Rob Bessinger and Mick Bardella will take on the challenge that only 2,500 people have completed in the event’s 35 year history.

They will have the backing of a support crew, led by Michael Lynch-Bell, who will provide food, clothing, medical care, bicycle repair, massage, entertainment and directions.

The riders are covering the cost of participation themselves so all sponsorship and donations will go directly to Chance for Childhood, a charity that aims to provide justice, education and care for vulnerable young people in Africa. The team’s objective is to raise $250,000 and you can contribute to this total here.
